Groo & Crew

The Boy

The boy—a typical young boy who likes dragons and rockets. He loves to explore outside and investigate small creatures living there. His friends are often around to go on imaginary journeys with him. He draws pictures, builds amazing structures with colored tiles, has lots of toys, lots of books, and a pet Siamese cat who sleeps on his bed.

The likeness of the boy is inspired by the author’s grandson, Walden.

Groo

Grumpety Groo—a silly little creature “no bigger than a book” who is sneaky, messy, and of course, GRUMPY. He delights in causing mischief and turning a child’s ordinary day into one of chaos.

The Groo? Where DID he come from? Who knows? But he was designed from the author’s imagination.

Boy’s friends

Boy’s friends—a mixed group of children about the same age as the boy. They don’t all go to the same school, but they have mutual activities and get together for “play dates,” birthdays, some holidays, and just plain fun! Like the boy, they love to imagine, build, and explore.

The “real kids” behind those in the book…

The friends of the boy are designed after three of Walden’s real-life friends.
